Question: What is a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry?

The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) is an organization of dentists dedicated to continuing education. To attain mastership in the AGD, a dentist must first become an AGD Fellow, earning a minimum of 500 hours of approved continuing dental education and passing a comprehensive 400-question examination. To attain Mastership, a dentist must take an additional 600 approved hours of continuing education across 16 dental disciplines, such as oral surgery, periodontics, and implants, of which 400 hours are hands-on courses. (So a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry has logged a total of at least 1,100 hours of documented continuing education.) Dr. Eric earned AGD Mastership in 1995 and currently takes more than 100 hours of continuing education each year.

Fun facts: Dr. Eric earned a certificate in nature illustration from the Art Institute of the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum. He holds an Italian government certification as a pizzaiolo (pizza chef). He has taught English and speech communications at Eastern Arizona College.
